A dream and a warning

Last night I dreamed I was at Shishir bhaiya’s flat. He lives on the 11th floor. My mother and Zaman were there too, but I didn’t see my sister-in-law or the baby. I asked bhaiya for the key so I could go out, and he wouldn’t give it to me. So I started throwing things out through a gap in the window, one by one. I threw out a lot, and bhaiya just sat and watched without saying anything. At some point my mother came and started scolding me. Then bhaiya said, “What’s the point of throwing all that out? Don’t waste your time.”

Then suddenly a call came from a number I didn’t know, asking if there was any problem. I joked with bhaiya, “Look, bhaiya, even strangers are asking if I’m in trouble, hehe. What do you think, should I tell them I’m in trouble because you won’t let me out?” Bhaiya said, “Up to you.” That got under my skin a bit more, so I told the caller, “Yes, I’m in a bit of trouble.” As soon as I said that, they said “wrong number” and hung up. Oh well, that didn’t work. A little later the doorbell rang. My mother opened it. The aunty from next door had come to drop something off. Then she left.

I went out to the balcony for something and saw police swarming all around the building. Why so many police? I hadn’t seen them before. Then it clicked. Wait, was that the police calling earlier? From 999? If so, we were in trouble! When I told Shishir bhaiya, it occurred to me that they must have sent the aunty next door too, to check what was going on. Now what? If they came up, Shishir bhaiya would be in real trouble, because it looked as if a kidnapper was holding us, and the kidnapper was Shishir bhaiya. It would be a proper scandal.

So I turned to bhaiya. What could we do? Just then another call came. Maybe if they got a ‘yes’ this time they’d come straight up. Should I tell them the truth? I didn’t have the nerve, so I said the kidnapper got scared when the aunty came and ran away. The man said, “All right, then I’ll tell the DIG not to come. The OC is on his way too. You can meet him in a little while.” That was a bit of a relief, but we weren’t out of trouble yet. I’d have to explain how the kidnapper got away. I thought I’d say he escaped on a motorbike. Shishir bhaiya said, “Don’t describe my old bike, or you’ll get caught.”

Then the bell rang again. It was the aunty, and I told her the whole story. She said, “That’s right, when I came I didn’t see anyone strange either, but the police said it was about a kidnapping, so go and see what’s going on…” and so on and so on. I don’t remember what happened after that. I woke up.

After that dream I thought, what on earth did I just dream? Then it struck me. Lately I’ve been doing a lot of ‘serious joking’, so maybe Allah showed me this dream as a warning, so that I don’t do it again. Alhamdulillah, a thousand thanks to Allah. Insha’Allah I’ll try. Not just try, I’ll give up this kind of serious joking completely. May Allah help me.
